Lars Böcking is a PhD candidate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT) in Bayreuth, affiliated with the Chair of Information Systems and Human-Centric AI since September 2023. His research is concentrated on data-centric AI in multivariate time-series with varying temporal and spatial resolutions. Prior to this, Mr. Böcking completed a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He specialised in Business Data Analytics, Advanced Machine Learning, and Management Accounting. During his Master’s thesis, conducted abroad at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, he developed deep learning fusion models for EEG data-based eye movement prediction. During his Bachelor at KIT he intensified coursework in Real-Time Big Data Analytics, Applied Artificial Intelligence, and Supply Chain Management. As part of the academic journey, he participated in the Bachelor Thesis Abroad Program at the Beijing Institute of Technology in China from September to December 2020. In his professional journey, Mr. Böcking has gained experience contributing to both industry and research. During his tenure as a Visiting Data Scientist at Boston Consulting Group Gamma in Munich (April 2022 – July 2022), Mr. Böcking developed scalable end-to-end machine learning pipelines, particularly for global market-specific volume prediction. His role as a Research Assistant in Explainable Machine Learning at Fraunhofer IOSB in Karlsruhe (April 2021 – March 2022) discussed the filed of Explainable AI, emphasizing a comprehensive understanding of deep learning models and an analysis of customer-centric machine learning applications. Additionally, Mr. Böcking worked as a Research Scientist at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe (April 2020 – February 2021), contributing to machine learning research within a European consortium in the healthcare sector. In his earlier career he conducted an internship at AUDI in Ingolstadt in project management for autonomous driving.
